Trillium OBS Deployment

All of the Trillium family of sensors are available for use in OBS deployments. Sensors are packaged within pressure spheres with active gimbal systems for leveling during deployment. Nanometrics currently works with SCRIPPS in the US who provides the pressure vessels and gimbal systems.

The Trillium 40 and 120P are small enough to be used in their standard packaging. The Trillium 240 is repackaged in a more spherical container with central mounting flange.

Trillium sensors are ideal for OBS deployments having very low power conusumption and no mass lock mechanism. All sensors can be powered on at the surface and deployed. On reaching the ocean floor the gimbal system is activated and the sensor leveled. The Trillium 40 and 120P sensors require no mass centering and will remain centered provided the OBS package is not physically distured after initial leveling of the gimbals. The Trillium 240 incorporates motorised mass centering which will be required during the initial days after deployment as the OBS package acclimatises to the ocean floor temperature.
